My Kindle is connected to the same net as all my other devices. It has been allocated an IP from the same DHCP pool, is visable from the router and can connect to the internet.
IP Scanner has been running for about an hour and has not been able to find it !

Can I add a device manually and verify its status though IP Scanner ?

Cheers

we don't have a kindle to test, but there is no reason it should behave any differently than any other IP device (unless it is one of those Kindles that also has a 3G connection?)

Can you confirm that it is a WiFi only Kindle?

Hi,

No the Kindle is a WiFi / 3G model.

However 3 x  iPhones are wifi / 3g  and the iPad is also wifi / 3g (though without the sim installed). What is the connection with the 3G capability ?

The issue is that even when WIFI is available and one thinks that the device is using WIFI, it sometimes uses 3G anyway.  …and of course if it is using 3G it won't turn up on a local network scan.  We've had that happen with our test iPhones on occasion.  But the Kindle may be doing some other tricky technique to avoid detection as well – we'll have to get one to test with…
