I have DropCopy 1.4.7 on three machines running Tiger X.4.11.
I've been using DropyCopy for at least a couple years without a problem.
Today, out of the blue, for some reason I have one machine that refuses to accept files and refuses to send files.
If I send TO it manually via its IP, it works.
I still can't send FROM it unless I specify a manual IP address to go to.
The other machines are fine with each other so I'm certain it's only this one machine. I also added three new machines for testing purposes and all 5 can send/receive to each other but not this one machine.
I do NOT want to specify manual addresses… I want to find and solve the actual problem.
I'm getting the 10 second time-out warning that says port 5052 is blocked. I do NOT have a firewall enabled on any of these machines so port 5052 is wide open on the whole network.
Then after I get the error message, the destination machine's copy of DropCopy just quits by itself.
So if I understand properly, this is a Bonjour issue. So how can I troubleshoot Bonjour? Is there a preferences file I can delete for it? Where to start?
Thank-you.

Bonjour Browser shows all Bonjour items under DropCopy with correct port open…
_dropcopy._tcp. – 5
G3-Server.local,xxx xxx,0,1.4
G3-Server.local.
172.16.1.3:5052
version=1.4
busy=no
Mac-Mini-1.local,xxx xxx,0,1.4
Mac-Mini-1.local.
172.16.1.4:5052
version=1.4

Mac-Mini-2.local,xxx xxx,0,1.4

172.16.1.5:5052

busy=no
Power-Mac-G4.local,xxx xxx,0,1.4
Power-Mac-G4.local
172.16.1.2:5052
version=1.4
busy=no
Only the last item at 172.16.1.2 is giving the errors on both send and receive. Other 4 items are working with each other normally.
Also, this machine at .1.2 giving me the trouble is the only one connected to the router via a patch cable. All other computers are wireless. I mention it because it's the only thing unique to the setup, but seriously cannot see how this should make a difference.

I also installed a new wireless router a day or two ago.
I also don't think it's relevant unless there's something wrong with it.
All DropCopy usage is on inside of LAN so router shouldn't be blocking anything, right? It's a Belkin so anything's possible I suppose.
When I do a port scan of every computer running DropCopy, I can see port 5052 just fine.
I am hesitant to open port 5052 within the router since this opens port 5052 to the outside world… why would I need to do that.
I don't see any other router settings and besides, all computers except for the one are working fine.
I'm getting ready to drop my old Netgear back in place just to rule this out.

IT'S THE STUPID BELKIN ROUTER…
No problems with the old Netgear router.
I dropped in the old router (same LAN settings) and did NOT reboot anything.
DropCopy works perfectly.
Can anyone tell me why?
Any clues to what I need to change in the Belkin router in order to get DropCopy to work?
Port 5052 is not being blocked and DropCopy works on all wireless computers but not anything plugged in.
EDIT:
DropCopy on my MacBook works wirelessly. As soon as I plug it into the LAN with the Ethernet cable, DropCopy times out with the warnings that port 5052 is blocked.
That pretty much proves it… The Belkin actual routes packets from the wired ports differently than from the wireless ports.
There is no secret configuration in the Belkin N1 Vision that will get this working… the router is just a P.O.S.
I'm presently waiting for Belkin's escalation team to return my call so I can report my findings and get an RMA.

thanks for the info. We've torn our hair out on occasion before with these sorts of router shenanigans…

I have two new macs, a 20" 2,0 GHZ, 2 GB Ram iMAc and a 13" 2.4 GHZ 2 GB Ram MacBook. The MacBook is not able to send anything it says that port 5052 is blocked. I will though receive anything thrown at it though and using these terms can't throw anything. I have spent the better part of my weekend trying to fix it through the DropCopy Prefs.
Any help would be great
Thank

with this kind of thing, always try to send via IP number to rule out Bonjour (the auto-discovery system) as a source of network problems. as earlier posters have mentioned, some routers block multicast data – but they should never block direct IP traffic between devices.

Hi, I’ve also used DropCopy for years, and only one Mac, a 15” MacBook Pro just prior to the unibody model, is flaking out. When I restart the Mac or quit and restart DropCopy it recognizes all the other currently running machines with DropCopy, but only for awhile. Then it shows no other destinations, and “Rescan for Destinations” does no good. My iPhone DropCopy is happy, as is the Touch, the other more recent MacBook Pro is happy, and the iMac is happy. I’ve reinstalled it a few times, and looked for but couldn’t find any preference files to trash.
We use an Airport Extreme that also has on the same extended network, and Airport Express, a Time Capsule, and Apple TV (which is usually in sleep mode).
Any suggestions?
