It would be cool if the menu lists all possible destination, so that I can fire up the "Send message" dialog to for a specific person via a script or a hot key.
if you add a person as a manual destination, they should always show up in destinations list for messages, whether they are online or not. This is the list that is part of the menu bar, not the dynamic drop zone list.
I fiddled with the problem for the last 30 minutes, but the result is not what I aimed for – this is what I came across:
When I add manual destinations and click on the dropzone, the names doesn't fade away – all names still stay there even after the copy action is performed. One has to double click the dropzone for the names to disappear again and return to the subtleness of DropCopy.
When I check the option "only show manual destinations" in the preferences to avoid doubled entries, the menubar icon does not show any locations at all in the list (under Get/Send Clipboard and Send Message). I guess this is a bug.
Still it would be nice to have something that is globally accessible, like a menubar entry (≠ menubar icon) – e.g. just like Adium has all your connections listed: http://cl.ly/CLBc
I could easily acces this via an application like Keyboard Maestro or Sparks and automate a lot of my everyday communication in our small 5 people office.
